and not just casual day to day swings but something major like depression or bipolar? When I was in Ottawa I remember one day having to get up at 5 in the morning to work and as soon as I stepped out of the house I started crying. I shut the door, put on my pyjama and went to bed. The cold, grey atmosphere must have done something. Likewise I notice that when it is sunny I am cheerful, a certain sepia toned sunny day makes me incredibly happy.
I wonder if cold can be associated with sadness. Maybe the reason there are so many death metal bands from scandinevia or the fact that so many Russian writers are cynical depressed souls. Tropics like those on sunny beaches seem happy.
Many people, including myself, have SAD, which is seasonal affective disorder. When it is winter and there are shorter days and less sunshine, there is rain and/or snow, it causes a biological affect within the body and people with it get depressed. So yes, weather can certainly affect a person's mood.

Yes it affects, I remember I spent a summer in the UK, only 3 real sunny-summer days per month, going to swim in the indoor swimmingpool....in August!! that made me a bit more depressed than usual.
Yep it affects me in both good and bad ways, cold gloomy days i'm not as happy and the first really cold day of fall I was always depressed when I lived in wv. Now that i've moved south and it's much warmer I notice a change in me, i'm happier now that it's much warmer, plus we have more sunny days and NO SNOW!

I live in Scotland and deal with cloud and drizzle all year, but what makes me gloomy is the very short, dark days in winter. In summer it's still light out at 11pm so much easier to deal with.
Oh and I usually go somewhere warm every winter for 3 - 4 weeks.

I loved the East TN climate. I moved there from the midwest solely based on the climate (and natural beauty).
