So don't do anything where you plan on this being done, at least anytime soon. Sorry to be a downer, but .....
Exactly right. I expect both the lock widening and channel dredging to be done, but it will be at least 5, and more likely 10 years before both are completed.

ATTENTION
BOATERS

BSI Lock Renovation Schedule

FYI, per the Contractor, the BSI Lock Restoration project schedule is as follows:

Materials will be delivered 04/20/2015 and work will commence.

Lock will be closed to boat traffic for 24 hours on 04/22/2014 for the demolition of the first column.

Lock will be closed to boat traffic for 24 hours on 04/28 or 29/2014 for the demolition of the second column.

Divers will be working underwater during the project so boaters shall use caution in the area and watch for signals from crew members above the waterline. Boaters should expect delays when passing through the lock.

How in the world did they get the permits for that so fast?

It's been two years of fighting to get the permits to dredge Alligator Creek and still nothing.

Marty I think the widening has been in the works since Clinton was President.....

(But don't quote me on that! I was told that it's been a topic going on for years.)
