Here is the map of the East and West Spring Lake project. First sections of the planned expansion. All the areas that drain into Alligator Creek, which includes Edgewater, will, sooner or later, be converted to sewer. If you are paying the $500 annual payment, you are on the list. If not, plan on a 'boing' assessment when the next phase is done.

Default Sewer hookups

Thanks, Restrain- i guess at some point in near future, they'll decide to put sewer in this area also. We are not in any of those areas that they have mapped- not looking forward to that cost- I guess @$15,000 (scary)!

They based our assessment (appx 7800 if paid in cash, $10,000 over 20 years) on a $10M estimated coat. Bill was more like $27M. Don't know how much of this can be used for the next expansions, but expect a much higher assessment.

Thanks Restrain- this is a great forum& I appreciate any information. Do you know when the next meeting will be regarding future sewer hook ups? I will call the phone # listed Monday to see if they will tell me any information too. I guess eventually everyone im Charlotte county& North Port will be forced to have sewer-quite an expense for people on a fixed income.

You are correct. Everyone will eventually be hooked up, regardless of price or financial difficulty. We battled the commissioners for over 5yrs on the current Spring Lake sewer project before they slipped it through, against mass objection. They took the "divide and conquer" approach, so they are doing smaller areas at a time.
With the SL expansion, they would waive the annual tax assessment if you could prove financial hardship https://www.charlottecountyfl.gov/ne...-Approved.aspx but you had to prove this each and every year and it took lots of documented financial proof to do this. Very few were ever approved for the hardship funding.
Contrary to popular belief, it's NOT about the environment. It's 100% about money. $hit is big business. The more revenue CCU brings in, the fatter the coffers. Plus once the sewers are installed all the way out to Collingswood/776, it will make the Murdock Village property much more valuable (which many feel is the main goal of the county).
They've heard tearful testimony from fixed income folks for many years on this and they simply don't care anymore. They've hardened to it and vote unanimously each and every time. Spend spend spend. I mean hey, it's not their money!

To the people that think 10K is too much for a sewer hookup, I wish I could get that deal. We live in Punta Gorda and our quote to hook up to the sewer to Charlotte County is $18,537. If we spread it out over 20 years it's $1,364 a year for 20 years or $27,280. I would be extremely happy to have that 10K quote.

Save all the drywall mud buckets from the house construction. That's a lot of honeypots there!

The home is 25 years old. I think I'll run up to McDonalds when it's time for #2. lmao- My point is the longer you wait the more it will be. I think in Cape Coral, I read about close to a 30K hookup fee.
