We were down Memorial day weekend and had the landscape guys prune the shorter of our two coconut palms. They left the coconuts for us.

I didnt realize how HEAVY they are. We had about 25 nuts.

At first we didnt have anything to get into them without cutting or fingers off. At Home Depot I bought a 3/4" drill bit. Louise had shipped down some stuff from home including her dads old hand drill.

We used the hand drill to drain the water out of the coconuts (we did about 8 at a time).

We filled a glass dispenser you see being used with water and fresh fruit. This kept the coconut water nice and cool in the fridge. We added orange slices at one point.

IT WAS REALLY GREAT! I drank it the whole week we were there.

Anybody else do this or have access to coconuts?

I just found a tool that does it prettye asily:

Coconut Water "can" upset ( loosen up ) your digestive track .. how much it takes and over what period of time is different for everyone.. Guava on the other hand is Very Good For What Ails Your Digestive track..

A Nail will pierce the nut but will only seperate the meat, making for a VERY SLOW Drain..
Yes a drill bit and a drill do a nice job.. but a coconut tool/spike can be used everywhere..aka diveboat saftey stop on the beach skamper up a tree grab a few nuts whip out your coconut spike and all the ladies now think of you as their own personal HERO Life is not just living at home..

Been, there, done that, now buy it in a can at the store. . A young man down at Mallory Square in Key West cuts green coconuts open for the tourists with a machete.
