We are a local family seeking a domestic (US) infant OPEN adoption. We are working with an adoption agency (nationwide, but with a branch in Raleigh) and wondering about recommendations for places/methods/etc of networking to find a potential birthmother (a woman who has an unplanned pregnancy and may be considering adoption for her baby). Open Adoption means both parties (birthparents & adoptive parents) share all identifying information, and we keep in touch through visits, letters, photos, etc as the child grows up. This is different than the way most adoptions used to be handled (and some still are closed or semi-open) where records were kept sealed.
Our agency encourages adoptive families to do their own networking, since many successful matches are made by 'someone knowing someone who knows someone...'.
If you have any recommendations of specific places where bulletin boards are available for posting flyers, etc in the Chapel Hill/Durham/Hillsborough/Raleigh/Cary area, please let us know, OR if you happen to know someone who is pregnant and may be considering adoption, please DM me. We are fully approved with a homestudy on file and can give you a link to our website.
TIA for the recommendations!
It's hard to guess which places people may actually look at bulletin boards, which papers have well-read classifieds, etc.
