Hi,
I am a 27 yr old single female relocating to the Raleigh area. I have decided on the Brier Creek area (Preserve Apts) or Cary (WestonLakeside Apts). If anyone could offer any advice on which area better suits someone my age and any other advice that would be helpful, I would appreciate it very much.
Thanks Again
Basically, which area would you choose?

My own opinion is that as a single gal you'll enjoy north Raleigh better than Cary. There's not a lot to do as far as nightlife goes (read: none at all) in Cary. It's mostly suburban families.

I would also vote for brier creek area in that it is close to lots of different places to eat, there is a grocery store within walking distance, etc. There is probably more to do around there than in cary

Well im staying at the Weston Lakeside apartments, and relocated from Houston Texas. Its true if you want a night life Cary is not it, but if you want a nice safe city Cary will be your best bet. The apartment is also close to the malls in the area, and I find it a good commute to the Traingle area.

There are also other cities that are as safe as Cary. Cary is a great place....don't get me wrong...but let's be real here. It's not the only option for 'safe'.

I'm 27 and have been living in North Raleigh (just south of Brier Creek off 70) for the past year, but will be moving to Glenwood South in a week. It really depends on what kind of lifestyle you are looking for. Personally, I would never pick Cary, just because from what I have seen it just doesn't have the feel that I'm looking for. It is a very safe area, but just not my flavor.

North Raleigh has been a pleasant place to live, but it is still too suburban for me. Brier Creek is convenient, but I really don't go there much except for the BJ's and a few other stores once in while, since where I live everything that is in Brier Creek is closer. However, the big box apartment style of living just isn't for me, and I like being able to walk around to restaurants and other shops from my doorstep. So my boyfriend and I have found an adorable apartment on a quiet street that is walking distance to a lot of restaurants, shops, bars, etc. down in the "thick of it", but it is quiet enough in the neighborhood to not know you are near those things unless you go walking to them. But again, this is just our preference. We are not unhappy that we spent our first year in North Raleigh to get a feel for the area. It is very safe and convenient to most everywhere in the Triangle.

Default Thanks

Thanks for the advice. I do like the North Raleigh area, however all I have heard about through the media is how wonderful the Cary area is. My hesitation with Cary is that I will be "isolated" from others that are single in my age group. Is this true? Also, is the Brier Creek area safe?

I'm fairly sure that Cary is considered one of the best places in the US to raise a family, not to be single in your 20's But it's really up to you as to how close you want to be to nightlife. If you're more of a rent a movie, eat pizza with friends kind of girl, suburban Cary could be your cup of tea. Though the Brier Creek area struck me as fairly suburban as well.

Cary is much more family-oriented from what I can tell, this is why I don't feel that we would fit in there as well as the North Raleigh area. North Raleigh, however, also has family oriented areas, but there are definitely more singles as well. Brier Creek is very safe, but I wouldn't necessarily say that it is full of 20-30 something singles. It is definitely still a suburban area with some newer construction (condos, homes and apartments), so it is considered a desirable area. There are shopping centers nearby with a movie theater, but I wouldn't say that there is really much "nightlife" in the Brier Creek area itself; however it is a fairly easy drive to find some (mostly in downtown Raleigh). We never go to the Brier Creek area to find something to do on a Friday night, if that gives you an idea! Downtown Raleigh and the Glenwood South section are where you'll find your art galleries, bars, and live music where you'll find singles in your age group.
