I am looking to swap out the non-motion sensing flood lights that the builder installed in the rear of my house with motion sensing ones that are a bit more heavy duty than the cheesy ones that they gave me with the house. I checked Home Depot and Lowes but did not like their selection and would like to know if there is a lighting supply store in Durham/Chapel area that would inventory something like that. I am even opened to a good website that can detail and review good quality motion sensing flood lights. Any suggestions ..

Check to see if there is a House of Lights near you. I know there's one on Yonkers Rd in Raleigh - but I wouldn't say its close to Chapel Hill/Durham.

They carry more indoor than outdoor lights - but had a better selection than the big box hardware stores.

Maybe check with an Ace Hardware as well?

If there are any electricians or home improvement enthusiasts out there, I would appreciate your recommendation for a very bright motion sensing flood light. I just need to know what to look for in terms of brightness etc. Thanks

The brightness is really a function of the bulb(s) you choose (within the rated wattage of the base). Flood bulbs have a broader illumination area and Spot bulbs are more focused. Different bulb types can be more efficient (i.e. CFLs) so consider the "lumens" (light) that the bulb provides when evaluating the amount of light.
You also need to consider the view angle of the motion sensor so that it covers the area you need it to cover. It sounds like broader will be better in your case (i.e up to 270 degrees if on a house corner).

House of Lights is a reasonable local option. Amazon will also give you an idea of what's available in a broader view.
