We don't usually go out to eat much, but miracle of miracles, the planets have aligned and my husband and I are both off on Saturday night, so we wanted to take our kids out for dinner. We'd prefer a restaurant that wasn't too much of a chain, provides a nice menu variety, is comfortable for older elementary kids and won't require us to sell one of them to pay for the bill. Any suggestions?

My kids like Tribeca Tavern in Cary. You can get a table with a t.v. at it....if you like sports, this will be key on Saturday! Nice enough for the adults but kid friendly as well, we took our kids one evening and the waitstaff was very nice and accomodating.

The Loop on Kildare. Lots of kids there and the prices won't break the bank. Pizza or whatever for the kids and some healthier fare if you wish for the adults.

I like both of the suggestions above. The Loop is less expensive I believe.

We really love the Loop too. Also Cinelli's.

Another suggestion is Ginza - Japanese hibachi style where they cook at your table. They put on a fun show and kids love it!

Ginza Japanese Steak House & Sushi Bar

Not sure if you have concerns about an Ale House, but Harrison's is a great place, as is the Carolina Ale House near Crossroads. I like them because they have good food and variety. If you are not adverse to taking the family to a place that serves beer, it is a great place to go. The "dining area" is very family friendly, and not "beer-ish".

Carolina Ale House is definitely family-friendly, but Harrison's...not so much. I don't know why Harrison's is even in the same family as the rest of the restaurants in this local chain, because it is the grungiest, darkest place I've been to for dinner. Good food, but not good atmosphere for families. If you want to experience the food, choose Village Draft House, Falls Tap Room, or even Leesville Tap Room.

YMMV!
