We lived right off leesville road back in the mid 90's in Dominion Park subdivision and our oldest son went to leesville elementary but was then reassigned to Hilburn. (we later moved to Cary/Apex but had we stayed there, both our kids would have continued on to Leesville middle and high schools). The fact that the elementary, middle, and high schools are right there and connected is very ideal and it means that if you buy in a more established neighborhood near there then you have a better chance of your kids being there for the whole time. We kept in touch with our neighbors in Dominion Park and one of our son's best friends still went to Leesville High and it along with Green Hope, Apex, Panther Creek, and Broughton is considered to be among the more highly sought after and high-performing High Schools in Wake.
Thank you VickiR: Yes, all true. The two "rumors" I heard were from people who live in those areas, and know firsthand. So, although I trust the ones that have told me this info, I am still reaching out to get others insights because one person cannot define an entire area.
This move has been in the works for years. We will rent this summer, and see from there. Any help from residents has been, and will continue to be, a huge help. If these boards are a cross section of the people of Raleigh, then we will be very happy there!
Iminformed2: It is comforting to read your post. This is, thru my many hours online checking addresses thru the Wake County website, the conclusion I have come to. It seems that certain neighborhoods have very little reassignments close to Leesville High. I know that only a minority of kids get moved around, but if its your child, I would think it would be stressful.
I'm sure all of the schools are great in their own way. We are parents who try to find the best "fit" for our children. It can make all the difference in a teenagers life.

Having lived 3/4 of a mile from the Leesville schools but assigned to schools up to 11 miles away, I can personally attest that living in a nearby established neighborhood is no guarantee of anything. We eventually did end up at Leesville after a couple of reassignments and experienced all 3 of the schools there. I thought very well of the Leesville schools and liked that area very much.
We moved to FL and wasted time and money because we did not do enough research. I'm trying to avoid that now, and do the best for my kids.
Raleigh is wonderful, and is always rated highly for friendly and nice children. This is a major plus for me. The flow of ever day life just seems to glide so much more smoothly when there is polite interactions, with some smiles. That reminds me, my house is on the market, and I have to go and WD40 my sliding glass doors!
Good day to all!
