Can't help much without a location, but your best bet is to just google around. I don't think you'll find huge variances between storage places.

We used Space Station on 55 without issue. Their rates are on their website.

Public Storage charges $1 for the first month. Doubt you're going to do any better than that. Lots of locations around here.

I believe that $1 1st month deal requires a contract for a longer period.

Almost all of them have a deal on the first month of storage. I think I paid $60 for a place in North Hills area. There was no long term contract. Make sure what you're storing can't be acquired for less than what it costs to store on the used goods market. I wanted to store a kitchen table that I liked till I realized that the table and chairs cost $500 new and I would run through that in 6 months of storage.

Storage 55 (on Hwy 55 in Cary) was pretty reasonable and is month to month. You might try them.

Just rent a garage from the same apartment you are moving into.

Unless it's like most apartment complexes and there are no garages. Or they want a 12 month lease on the garage too.
