Hi: What is your normal summer and winter Duke energy monthly bill? Let's say you live in 1500sf single family home, townhome or apartment. Or share your monthly billing costs and what size of space is it? Thanks in advance.

My apartment is 1000 sq ft and my bill averages $76 on the average monthly billing plan. Individual months range from $45 in the spring and fall, to around $110 in the coldest and warmest months of winter and summer.

It is just me and my teenaged son and we do not do laundry or run the dishwasher here. We tend to turn lights off when we are not in a room and use just one tv for a few hours a day. I keep the thermostat on 67 in the winter and 72 in the summer.

Oh Thank you so much chellemi808! We are moving to Raleigh in a couple weeks and I started fretting about how it could be so much higher than what we pay in Az. It sounds like a very similar or lower bill than Arizona, because the bill here has never gone below $110. That is good news! I was beginning to get cold feet about the move, so many unknowns. We are retired and don't know the area but we really think its so beautiful when we have visited the area in the past! Thank you thank you thank you! If anyone else can share their bill it will just reinforce that I don't at least have this elec bill as a fear. I guess the next fear will be our car registration....

Our house is a little over 1600 square feet. Our winter bills are much higher. The past two were $154 and $178. It's my husband and I and young son. Our summer bills were $100 or less, however. Our bills in our townhouse, which was about 1000 square feet, were actually on par with our current place, if not more. But that HVAC system was old and the windows not as efficient.
Good luck!

I have a 1400 sq ft house and we do the thing where they avg your payments out so it's the same all year. Last year it was $95/mo. This year it has gone up to $130/mo, but I'm a SAHM now and wasn't last year, so prob makes sense.

It will really depend on where you live. Apartments and townhouses that are inbetween others are usually the cheapest. Anything 2 stories can be higher. Older homes with inadequate insulation is probably the biggest energy users,I know cause I live in one. It's common for many houses here to have gas heat. Natural is cheaper then propane on last check. My current house is old ,1300sqft and summer months at 72 runs me about $175.

This is so variable. What's comfortable for some is not comfortable for others.

Temp settings summer (upstairs/downstairs) daytime: 74/73. Night: 70/69. Highest bill 2014: $157/mo. Lowest bill: $67

gas bill:
Settings: 65/65 night, programmable thermostats change temps during waking hours to 71/70 (6:30 am to 8:00, 4:30 - 630pm).

Our electric bill for a total electric property runs about 490/month with Duke Energy Progress.

Don't know what you now pay, for water, but the water bills here can be a big expense. Our bill for an 890 SF 1BR apt is over $60/month because the city crams it with "junk" fees. If you get into an area served by the Aqua water company, you will be horribly ripped off.

Also, by all that's Holy, do not get a home heated by propane.
