We're thinking about having a free-standing pergola built and installed on our stamped concrete patio (roughly 12 feet x 12 feet). Does anyone have a company they recommend? A neighbor used Standard Construction & Landscaping out of Raleigh (we're in Morrisville) and was pleased with the results.

Standard construction was the name that came to my mind just from your subject line. If your neighbour was happy and you look at and like what you see, that's probably where you should start.

Does anyone have any other ideas? Standard Construction promised me an estimate over a week ago and hasn't gotten back to me (I know it's a busy time, but still!). It looks like Gress, Inc. mainly does pools and hardscapes. I just need someone who probably primarily does decks but can also do a pergola on stamped concrete. Thanks!

Have you considered doing it yourself. I just finished one, two weeks and $600.00 12 x 12.

Come on - volunteer some more details eg. 6x6 posts? 2x12 beams? The wood quality looks better then the stuff at the box stores...you use twice dried from Capital city?

Excellent job!! I like the lines and the scale of details.

Nice job dchz1. More details please for serious but zero experience DIY-ers.

--- Design ---
* Is it structurely sound for your 12 span between two posts?
* Any specific books/Websites you used for design and technical guidance?

--- Tools ---
* Is router must have for the curves? I'm going to test cut some curves with a reciprocating saw this weekend.

--- Bills of Materials (quantity and dimensions)---
* Wood?
* Hardware?

I would love to know what kind of prices they quote for you. I was thinking of having one installed and then securing sunbrella fabric to the top to provide shade. Does anyone know what companies are charging for pergolas?

Yes it's solid

I used a *** saw for the curves

--- Bills of Materials (quantity and dimensions)---
* Wood?

12 - 2 x 10 x 16
4- 6 x 6 x 16

12ft inside and 14 ft outside

* Hardware?
12 - 5/8 x 10 carriage bolts
1 box premium deck screws

I add 2 x 4 to the top running opposite the 2 x 10 for looks and keeps the 2 x10 from warping [ not pictured ]
