Why are there so many dead worms on the sidewalks in W Cary? Anyone know?

It could be from the lack of rain, or maybe someone sprayed the grass with a toxin. We have fleas in our backyard and I hate treating it because of all of the other critters that die.

I was just thinking that this am! Only one block in particular that I walk the dog on in Haddon Hall was worm covered. Of course the dog thought it was a personal raw bar and tried to eat every one of them. We had to walk in the street to avoid them......

There are tons of them scattered in the neighborhoods around Cameron Village too. We just noticed how many of them there were yesterday. Crazy. I'd assumed it was from some sort of lawn treatment or perhaps it was all those worms that had been hanging from the trees a couple of weeks ago. I thought perhaps some of the strong winds recently had blown them down from the trees.

lol...not "worm" worms. More like inch worm type worms or cankerworms.

Sorry! GarnerMama's right. The tree "worms" aren't really worms. They're sort of like mini caterpillars, for lack of a more technical description. Tiny, light green, inch wormy type things, hanging from trees in droves.

I noticed this at my work in Durham, as well. The lawns had been treated a day or so before, so it all makes sense now. Poor little worms!

The worms I'm seeing are brownish/red, not green. But maybe thats because they're dead? Do inchworms turn brown when they die?
