I am extremely new to the area (got here two days ago) and I've started working on landscaping my extremely overgrown yard. In a back corner I found some small, red, almost furry berries growing on a non thorney vine. I am very much into wild edibles, so if anyone knows what these are, and if they are safe to eat, I would be very greatful for the information!

Love and Light!

They're probably false wild strawberries also known as indian strawberries and are not really edible if so. I mean they're not poisonous, but they don't have any taste, unlike real wild strawberries. Google for a picture before you do any taste-testing. We do have many poisonous plants and berries here, too. Make sure you know what you're eating, especially mushrooms, but that probably goes w/o saying.

False wild strawberries don't grow on vines. We'd need a picture to really help.

I don't know eva, depends on what you mean by a vine. They do have runners like domesticated strawberries and many people think of those as vines. Hard to say without a picture, but I can't think of any other "almost fuzzy" red berry.

Jennytalia, check out these links and see if that's what you've got or something else...

Wild Strawberry (Fragaria virginiana) (real wild strawberries)
My Neighborhood Power Line Cut M (false, mock or Indian strawberries)
