But I guess I'm wrong. Living here in Raleigh now tells me otherwise. Moved here from Wilson (currently in an apartment) and 190k house here in the Triangle is not what a 190k house is in Wilson. Looks like I'm gonna have to move back to the non existent part of NC. I can't believe people who have lived here in Raleigh all their lives, have never even heard of Wilson. (40 min down the road)

You should be able to get a 190K house on a 75K combined income with no other outstanding debt. You can get a lot of house for $190K in Raleigh.
When we passed through Wilson on Amtrak, it looked very depressed. Guess prices would be lower.
If Raleigh is high, perhaps you can trade down if you like Raleigh more than Wilson. My income was never great, so we rented in the Capital Boulevard area. Works for us.

I grew up in the triangle (chapel hill) and we never even went to raleigh as a kid (no I40 and all travel was on 54). You MUST realize that many people are insular, and they live/exist in the places they most often travel (home/work). So, if they have not had a reason to go to the wilson area, they probably have not ever been there. It is not an insult to Wilson, but just realize the triangle, in itself, is a huge area and I don't get to all of those places!
I spend a lot of time in Wilson for work and am not surprised that housing might be much cheaper there. Sorry you aren't finding what you're looking for here!
I was born in Wilson. You're correct that people don't often know it exists. It's not someplace I'd move to, honestly.
I've lived in Wake County since 1st grade (for the most part).
I'd rather own a 190k house in Raleigh than one in Wilson.
I'm originally from Wilson too and my parents still live there. Wilson is not a cheap place to live due to utilities being 30%-40% higher and much higher property tax rates. Housing in a decent part of town is not that much cheaper than Raleigh especially when you factor in the higher utility rates and higher property taxes mentioned above.
