I am considering moving to the Raleigh area from Arizona. I have lived in Arizona for almost three years now (moved from Minneapolis MN) and while Arizona is okay, I miss the 4 seasons that I had in Minnesota but not the extreme cold and heavy snow that was there. I researched NC and have had family members that have visited there and said that they loved it. It reminded them of Minnesota but without the cold/heavy snow. In Minnesota we have humid summers and I also lived in Florida, so I am used to the humidity. The things that I don't particulary like in Arizona is, the hot, long summers(5 1/2 months) No Fall ( I love the changing leaves). Most of the houses do not have large yards and it is not very green here. I want to know if anyone moved there from Arizona/Minnesota and if so, how do you like living there now? I am visiting the Raleigh area in July. Thank you for any input!!

We moved to Raleigh in June 2012 after 25+ years in the East Valley /phoenix area.

It's VERY dI'm happy to answer specific questions. Based on the limited information in your pist, this area fits your requirements.

With just a few exceptions, we are VERY satisfied with our new home town and comfortable and happy with our decision.

But be aware that the cost of living in Raleigh - Durham is higher than what we were used to in Phoenix. CONSIDERABLY HIGHER.

I have a friend from Providence, RI who moved to Charlotte, NC after living in Tucson, AZ for three years.

She told me that Tucson summers are much hotter and more oppressive than Charlotte summers; however, on the other hand, Charlotte winters are much colder and drearier than Tucson winters.

That being said, if you're looking for a pretty place to live that has a mild four-season climate with mountains and the beach in reasonable driving distance, Raleigh takes the cake.
