I am really looking forward to getting fresh produce from the Farmer's Markets in Chapel Hill/Carrboro. How do the prices compare with the prices for produce in the supermarkets?
I love the farmers market, and in the summer the flowers and plants are beautiful. Don't forget to eat breakfast out there at the Farmers Market Restaurant.
The prices are somewhat lower........but, the quality is much better & so fresh. When I was there a few weeks ago they did not have fruit (outside vendors) only apples. And they are limited on the veggies right now. But, well worth the trip.
Last time I bought fresh eggs (inside vendor) & fresh butter---which I never used before---wow! Very good!
Sorry, I thought you where asking about Raleigh's FM, reread your post & see you are asking about Carrboro FM--I haven't been to that one yet, but, was planning on going tomorrow! I have heard it was a good one.
There are a bunch of good farmer's markets here.
State Farmers Market in Southwest Raleigh.
Carrboro Farmers Market
Durham Farmers Market
And in the warm months, a downtown Farmer's Market on Wed afternoons in Raleigh's Moore Square.
Probably others I'm not thinking of.
As a rule, you get more for your money due to cutting out the middle-man.
We recently visited the Raleigh Farmers Market and were VERY impressed!
Thought that we'd eat lunch at the Farmers Market Restaurant and enjoy some fresh produce. What a disappointment. The baked chicken tasted like an old hen that had quit producing eggs so ended up on a dinner plate. The tomatoes were the equivalent of the winter grocery store variety--picked green/no flavor. The peas were dry, not fresh. The potato salad was chunked boiled potato w/mayonaise--no seasoning or taste.
We would not recommend this restaurant nor would we eat there again.
Later, after a trip to the Farmers Market in Asheville, we gambled again and won when we ate at their Hungry Moose Restaurant at the Farmers Market. Much higher quality food!
