Just an FYI, someone in the magnet office sent out a notification to applicants to the STEM Early College. Right now there are 745 applicants for 50 spots, 25 of which go to families where the student will be the first to attend college. I was thinking maybe a 1/15 chance. Nope... try about 1/30. And that's if no one else applies before 12/1. Ugh.

If you think that's unfair, just wait till you graduate with your "STEM" degree and find your job is held by a work Visa holder.

Corporate thugs like to whine about the supposed shortage of STEM talent. There are plenty of STEM degree holders but the companies have made it hard to get into R&D. It seems to me, as a STEM degree holder transitioning into a different field, that corporate interests have been meddling too much with the affairs of universities. Trade schools are not a bad route but it's not an easy journey without diligence.

It's disconcerting to see groups of people screwing other groups of people for resources.
