I believe that Carolina Arbors has not completed their clubhouse/indoor pool yet. (A poster above says late summer 2015.) The stand-alone houses are about the same floor plans, but Carolina Preserve also has some duplex townhouses which are priced lower. I believe that Arbors does not have townhouses. At the Preserve, the townhouses have a higher HOA fee because they do exterior maintenance. That might be one deciding factor.

We want to be in an all-age (well behaved all ages) community for a change of pace. There may become a day that living amongst the older population will be appealing but as of yet, it is not. Ambulances and for sale signs are a daily sight and very unnerving. We have only lived her 5 months and already one neighbor has died...SO SAD.
Excuse me but this was not your thread. The replies on this thread were directed at ncnina who specifically asked about 55+ communities in this area. If you are interested is other information, please start your own thread so the OP receives her requested info.

Actually no. There are mostly newer models/different floor plans at Carolina Arbors as well as many different upgrades that were not available at Carolina Preserve. Carolina Preserve has been sold out for a while now and only re-sales are available. Carolina Arbors is new, first home closed in August 2013. Building will continue for another few years. In my personal opinion, Carolina Arbors location is more optimal, 1 mile from Brier Creek.

I totally agree. There wasn't a single floor plan we liked at CP, nor did we like the location. CA had several floor plans that would have appealed to us, but we had already purchased and built in Regency at Brier Creek Country Club. The location is ideal, and the residents are mostly 50+ but it is not age restricted.

Check out Heritage Gates in the Heritage subdivision. The houses are all usually two story and it is designed as an empty nester community with all of your living being on one floor with the option of second story space if you want it. Outdoor maintenance is included and the initial homes sold like hotcakes. There are a few available (I think!) right at the tail end of the subdivision but depending on your timing you could luck into a resale. Heritage and the area are great!!!! We live there and find it to be a wonderful community.

Default Retiring in Raleigh area, 55+ community, current info

Thank you for all of your responses. They have been very helpful. We are planning a house hunting trip up to NC in the next few weeks. We are originally from the Northeast, but will be moving from So.Florida. Can't wait for real seasons and chilly weather. Most people retire to FL, we can't wait to move north to NC.
We will visit all of the places mentioned in the posts and will follow this thread for any additional info that might pop up. Thank you again.

I thought I could add in our experiences since retiring in 2010, we moved to central FLA to retire, then we moved to southern Arizona to another retirement community and I was just making a comment as an experienced person who also used to hold a Senior Real Estate Residential Specialist designation, I was not talking about something I do not know about. We are also moving to North Carolina in two months. I apologize if you only want posts on here that are mis-information from people who have not already travelled the same journey as the OP here. I thought it was a forum to share a person's actual experiences and I doubt that every person who commented here had also lived in Florida as a retiree, then lived in a 55+ community, was a Sr Real Estate trained person and knows senior housing laws and regulations inside and out and now we are moving to nearly the exact same place as this person. I guess you wanted to hear from an 18 year old person who lives in Ohio or something and is looking for a good surfing location. I am very well travelled and I have travelled all over the United States and the world. I am not just some random person that wanted to hear myself talk. I myself, have posted on this forum, you can look up my posts, people DO hijack the post and start conversations that have nothing at all to do with my original post but it did not prevent me from reading all the other applicable posts. And by the way, my post DOES have something to do with the OP here. If anyone has any questions about our retired experiences on the east coast of Florida or Green Valley Arizona, which is where we live now, one of the original Master Planned 55+ Communities which began in 1960 before Del Webb was even initiated. The community works very well for the intended purpose as a second home for 55+ people who live in the cold climates, it is a socially active community in a moderate climate in winter, there are 12 award-winning Green Valley Recreation Centers each with it's own pool, spa, fitness center, there is an awesome Clay Pottery Studio, Ceramics Club, Jewelry Making Club, Camera, Hiking, Art Studio, Yoga, Pilates and so much more. The GVRR is a part of the property deed when you buy in Green Valley, home prices are currently between around the $40,000 range up to over $500,000 range, most of the homes are priced around $100,000.

Thank you for all of your responses. They are very helpful and we will use them as a guide for our upcoming trip to the area in the next few weeks.
We are moving from So. FL, however we are originally from the northeast ...NY(both upstate and LI) & northern CT. Returning to real seasons will be delightful. Most people retire to the south, but we're retiring to the north.
I've noticed that resales in Carolina Preserve have not dipped below $350,000 lately. They were around $250,000 last year. With two similar communities further north in Durham, you would think that they would not have gone up so much. Any thoughts on that? Thanks for your past and future responses, ncnina

I believe that the moderator of this forum responded with the comment of sticking to the thread topic and supplying 55+ community information, not me. Thank you for your followup info. and to the others, again thank you for all of the info for me to pursue.
