Howdy

Asleep at the wheel due to travel. Given the cold temps is it still worth putting down crabgrass preventer this weekend (March 7-8)? I know it is usually done in Feb but I think it is still worth it? I am in Youngsville.

Anyone find any deals for it out there or recommendations on brand?

I have about 15,000 sq feet of mixed tall fescue.

Thanks

I put mine out when the Forsythia is in bloom. I never worried about dates. Scott's always worked for me.

I always shoot for around Valentines Day, but given the cold weather the past couple of weeks haven't done so yet.

I think you should be fine to get it down this weekend. Temps will finally rise this coming week.

im doing this weekend. Couldn't really do it the previous 3 weekends. You could do,later even but the longer you go the less it will work. Hopefully we will be fine as the cold stops/slows weeds also.

Valentine's is always the day to remember but it's not too late. Assuming you have fescue, you'll want to put down a fertilizer as well, and then fertilize again Labor Day and Thanksgiving. Remember those dates, do no more or less than this, and you'll be on your way.

I always go by the blooming of the forsythia, as well. If I recall correctly, the soil temps that coincide with forsythia blooming are a good indicator that crabgrass will be germinating soon after. So, I think you've got time.

The soil tmperature needs to remain at 50 degrees for several days. That happens to coincide with when the forsythia first blooms. Isn't that a useful coincidence? So this year, 2015, the forsythia has not bloomed yet and you still have time.

oops-guess several others have written the same thing!

I did mine today, so I'm hoping it will be all right. I also used a brand ("Hi-Yield") that supposedly allows you to put it down later than other brands.
