Best Big-Box Installation of Appliances? (buy, live, price)

especially a washer/dryer. They're all pretty much the same price for the units. And not much difference on delivery/install/haul. That tells me to select the highest quality one, even it's an extra $20!

Have you had any particularly good or bad experience with your install?

It probably depends on who they send out on that day how well it goes. I had HomeDepot, hhgregg and even web-based purchase from BestBuy for a refrig, and they all went well.

We always use Lowe's. Usually the Beaver Creek location.
We bought from them 15 years ago for our original washer/dryer and went back to them two years ago for our new washer/dryer.
Also got our fridge from them as well as our dishwasher.
Dealt with them a few times scheduling techs (still under extended warranty) and have had no issues.

The folks at Lowes did fine by me, for my washer and dryer. It took a few days longer than I wanted it to, but they told me that upfront, and were on time, courteous, and made sure the machine worked. I also had a wierd hookup (a range plug for my drier) and he pulled the right plug off the truck and installed it just fine.

I "installed" (I use that term loosely, it's plug and play) a stove, dishwasher, over the range microwave, fridge, and washer dryer using nothing Google. They are extremely simplistic.

I can't imagine one is better than the other. Buy for convenience and price, IMO.

I agree with wheelsup. Unless it's a gas dryer, installation is pretty hard to screw up. I've done it and it's not much more complicated than "installing" a lamp.

No problems with Lowes. They bring in the new and haul out the old. Additionally, we have never had any issues with being heavy handed on the plumbing water supply lines with Lowes installers.

When you buy a clothes washer from a Big Box store they are likely to say, "We require that you purchase new supply hoses as part of the installation." Maybe your broken washer is 12 years old but the hoses are only 1 year old. Tough beans! In such a case you may be better off to do your own installation.

Test yourself this way: uninstall your broken washer. One plug-in power cord, two screw-on water supply hoses, one shove-in-the-hole drain hose. If you can do that, you can do the reverse.

I would spend the money and buy new stainless-steel braided hose lines.
