I want to learn to make my own figure skating dress!
I don't even know how to put the thread through the machine anymore, though I somehow managed to make a jogging suit in home ec in the early 80s
N. Raleigh and Cary are more convenient to work and Durham convenient to all, but if anyone knows of a good class anywhere else then please let me know, thanks!
Well, I kept sewing after home ec in the 80s, but if I were looking for a class I'd probably go to Bernina World of Sewing in Oak Park (that's where I got my machine).
My daughter is a sophomore in high school and she want to design clothes. I have been looking for sewing class in the Raleigh, Cary, Durham area. Not online classes but actual classes do you know of any?? ..
call Martha Pullen in Huntsville Alabama and ask if they have a martha Pullen Licensed Instructor in the area. These ladies must pass alot of classes and have skills to teach sewing. You want to make sure you are taught not only by someone who knows how to sew but also how to teach. There is a big difference.

Beginning Garment Sewing- This class will teach students how to read a pattern, mark fabric, make simple seam finishes and much more. Students will make a simple top. I took a beginner sewing class at a Joann in another state and loved it--very laid back, small class size, teacher spent lots of time with each of us as needed. We picked something to make and over the course period we sewed it, with "homework" in between. Definitely worth giving them a call.
I took a class at Durham Tech at the Orange County Campus. In 6 or 8 weeks (can't remember for sure) I made a skirt and blouse and had never opened a pattern before. I inherited a machine from my mom; she showed me how to thread it and that was about it. I would definitely recommend signing up.
