Are there Any walkable/family friendly areas in Raleigh that also have good public schools? I know charter schools exist but I don't want to take the gamble of not getting my kids in. Every walkable neighborhood I look in seems to ha e poorer performing schools. Any help is appreciated.
Ps - I don't need full scalability and do have a car. Just would like to not be fully car dependent.
Define "poor performing" schools. I know with ITB, Needham Broughton doesn't have the greatest rating but from reading comments, it still appears to be a solid school. I'm not a parent though.
The other 2 schools I would be assigned to if I had kids are Joyner and Daniels and both are solid schools for elementary/middle school.

We need a big sticky thread that says two things. One, probably less than 1% of the area is walkable, by th common definition and even then you'll still need a car. Two, more than likely any random school here is better than any random school where you are coming from. Sure there are deviations from that, but it's generally true. Oh, and a third one maybe. This entire area is so family friendly, it should be in the dictionary as an example.

Yep the only areas that are truly walkable are inside the 440 belt line - 27601, 27605, 27608 zip codes for example - (and the schools there are not as highly rated because they pull kids from all different neighborhoods, good and bad IMO)

I would not make this assumption. Some schools are good here. Some are not - just like in most places. It really depends on where you are coming from.
Appreciate the friendly replies hee but let's be honest. No. There aren't. Even DTR isn't "walkable" and areas that are designed as such like Caneron village and north hills still don't provide everything needed to be considered walkable.
