I've been craving "gaeng pet phed yang" (roast duck curry) lately and checked with two of the local thai restaurants but neither had it on their menu. Any suggestions? I am in the Morrisville area.

I was really hoping for something closer to Morrisville, but if it's *that* good it might be worth the drive. I wonder if they fedex their food

You might want to just wait a couple months, because it seems like every Chinese restaurant on the Cary/Morrisville border is going Thai. I know that a place called "Thai Spice and Sushi" is scheduled to go in where Ma Ma Wok is located (though I'm a little unsure of restaurants that combine Thai and Japanese like that), and I just heard that the Shanghai Garden by Sam's Club has sold and will be becoming a Thai restaurant.

I assume you've tried Viva Thai and the King & I....

Champa Thai in Brier Creek, I believe that's what you are looking for.

I sort of felt that Champa was a bit more "asian-fusion" than "pan-asian" or "thai" but I will give them another try for the roast duck curry--their heavenly beef and the larb were pretty good. They had live music the night I went, and I think it may have spoiled the experience--the trumpet was way too loud for such a small venue.

Shaba Shabu on Wake Forest Rd in Raleigh has great thai food! They call it...

KANG PED PED YAHNG IN PINEAPPLE
boneless roasted duck stewed in curry sauce, bell peppers,
tomato, pineapple and basil leaves served in pineapple rind.

I got it and I loved it. It was a couple years ago though, but I'm sure its still great.

I agree, Champa's is not very authentic. I'm not sure if this place has what you are looking for but I went to Thai House Cuisine in North Raleigh with a Thai friend upon very high recommendations. I have to say its the most authentic I have had in the area. They will make the food as spicy as you ask for.
Can I post a link ? Thai House Cuisine

Default Shaba Shabu

Shaba Shabu is excellent! Just call ahead on the weekends because it can get crowded.
