I am wondering if it would be too weird to see a master bathroom without a tub in this area.
I am doing a new construction, and one option is to make the master bathroom with a bigger shower area and no tub. This plan will also give us more flexibility for some additional structures.
We don't use tub at all, and in case we really need to use tub, there is one in the second bathroom. But when I consider the resale value, is it too weird to see so in the RTP area? (I know the trend in the area where I am living now is that the top level bathroom plan has no tub but a very fancy shower area)
High end houses will have both, of course. But I think it is becoming much more common to see just a shower in many homes MB bath. As you said, it is a common option for new construction. My current MB bath has a garden tub, which is never used, and a shower. My next one will have a shower only. Like you said, there will be a tub in another bath. Not really your question, but a separate shower is also much easier to access than a tub/shower combination if mobility is ever an issue, also.
If we did not have two large windows over the tub making the space useless for any other configuration then would get rid of that thing in a heartbeat and enlarge the shower.
We too have a tub in the hall bath that the kids use.

Oh me too. I hate that huge useless tub! My shower is a decent size, though. Just kind of blah.

Thanks!
If you are in the 500k and up category, it's fairly unusual not to have both in a master bath.
If you are in the under 500k category, it's probably a mixed bag. Under 300k and I think you'd rarely find a buyer at resale who'd complain.
We have a tub and a shower in the master. Our tub is a corner tub and our shower is a 2-person shower. It's quite roomy. So, in that instance, there'd be no reason not to have both.
If space is seriously at a premium you might want to skip the tub, but in a larger home, that would make some buyers wonder why you have no tub. In a smaller home, not so much.
We rarely use the tub (it's a jacuzzi tub, and those are becoming rare), but it's enjoyable when we do. I surely would not skip having a larger shower to have a tub if I didn't use one, though.
