I looked online, and there are some, but they are mostly designed for large lots (100+).
Is there a local place, like a mall or something, where I can get two simple t-shirts made. All I need is to add some big block-letters, no graphics or anything like that. It's a silly X-mas present for GF.
2 shirts, one letter on the front, a different letter on the back. The two shirts would ideally be reversed (opposite front/back). It's an inside joke thing...
I looked into this for a team last year and it was going to be exorbitant for 10 shirts, forget 2. This is definitely a DIY project for you (or your daughter!)
You need a direct to garment printing system. There are places that do that. I don't know where in the Raleigh area, though. Google that phrase "direct to garment printing". We had some shirts printed that way for a fun run from a place in Burlington. There are no screen set up fees. The shirts turned out pretty nice. I don't know how much 1 or 2 would cost, but that's what you're looking for.
Screen set up fees are prohibitively expensive for 1 or 2 shirts, but the digital direct to garment process eliminates that.

We get one or two shirts at a time from Spectrum no problem. It's much cheaper to do digitally printed ones that way, though, so you would want a darker print on a lighter shirt. To make a screen (so they can put any color on any color), does cost more, but surprisingly it isn't THAT much. Spectrum will do either way.
I've used customink.com before. Not terribly cheap, but it's a great user interface and the options for t-shirt styles and varieties are endless. You can get a really nice product here though, so if you just want a joke t-shirt that you'll never wear again, just do an iron-on.
