We are thrilled that our baby boy has gotten engaged! Sadly, my grandmother's ring is about two sizes too big for her dainty fingers. We're looking for recommendations for a jeweler who can do a good job resizing it. We often use Holland's in Apex, but Son works in downtown Raleigh and lives in Fuquay, so it's a bit out of the way. They took it to a place in downtown Fuquay, but were less than thrilled with the woman who was there. She didn't seem to want to do it since they didn't buy the ring there. I mean, it's not like they wanted it done for free.
Anyone have a good place in Fuquay, Holly Springs, Garner or downtown Raleigh? Our future DIL wants to show it off for Christmas!
Being less than a week before Christmas they may be hard pressed to find a jeweler with time to do this.
The type metal may delay it further. Not all jewelers have the separate tools for platinum for example. The woman in Fuquay may have been hesitant about issues in an older ring - could have handled it better but resizing and the subsequent cleaning and polishing can put stress on stones and settings. The type setting can be of issue too - ex. channel settings can't be sized as easily as a prong solitaire. Resizing can be very straight forward and it can be quite tricky.
I bought a ring at Jared's, several years back, had it resized and the solder joint came apart about a year later. I took it back to Jared's. They wanted to charge me to fix it. I told them, no thanks and took it elsewhere. Apparently, they don't or didn't stand behind there work.
Going to be tough to get it done before Christmas. Get ready to beg. I had my rings re-sized a couple years ago at Holland's at this time of year, I can't remember how long it took but I think I got them back on Christmas Eve (and you could never tell they'd been messed with).
