Frances Scott

Interesting read -- I hate to hear she (and others) are going through such hard times with metal-on-metal joint replacements.

I got a Depuy ASR hip in 2006. Shortly afterwards I got a letter from J&J saying the thing was recalled. For the next 9 years I monitored metal counts in my blood. I never had any symptoms of a failing implant, but in 2015 the metal count in my blood was out the roof. An MRI showed two baseball size pseudo tumors around the joint. It was time to swap it out with a total hip revision. It was no piece of cake, but I recovered and moved on. I've followed the France's Scott story over the years. It's very sad.

Very unfortunate. Hopefully she and others involved make a full recovery.

Not sure what the engineers were thinking. I thought it's common sense an engine without oil will soon seize.

I didn't know. That's very sad. We certainly should have a system in the US that properly regulates medical devices.

It boggles my mind that there are people who want less regulation. I wonder if they'd feel the same if they were on the receiving end of one of these hip replacements.

I've been following her since learning of her hip issues. I've had 2 arthroscopic surgeries, and possibly face at least one replacement in my life. She has been very helpful for many of us "hippies" on Facebook. I'm proud of the work she's done in bringing this to our attention.
