But that doesn't address the issue of having the mattress removed.

Come on - in exchange for the mattress company being generous enough to donate the mattress, rent a truck at Home Depot for 20 bucks and drive it over.

Do the right thing.

I don't know about the OP, but that wouldn't be a practical solution for me. I live by myself in a second floor apartment. I would have no way of getting a mattress into a truck.

Get a neighbor to help?

Anyhow, someone posted a link to Salvation Army - they'll take it.

I don't know any of my neighbors well enough that I could ask them to help carry a heavy mattress down the stairwell in the middle of summer.

(hypothetically speaking, since it's not my mattress)

Well I can't help you with getting to know your neighbors.

The mattress is the same weight as when it came in. Yes it was boxed, but it didn't magically get heavier.

Honestly those foam mattresses contort so easily (obviously since they come in a box), it's simple for one person to drag the thing downstairs and through doors.

You mean like 'cheating' ! wow.

It can be donated to a shelter that will be happy to pick it up if it is clean; i.e. homeless Veterans, homeless children, homeless families, rehab center, and get a legitimate receipt.

You get the idea.
