I'm a parent, skater and resident of Raleigh.
It's been a 5 1/2 year fight to get our park and it's on it's way to being finished Jan/Feb of 2009, using park bond funds. The construction continues on the planned site at Marsh Creek park, located at New Hope & Marsh Creek Rd in N-E Raleigh.
I invite the parents of skaters to visit the site and to track it's progress. The kids that I talk to all want something free to skate and are looking forward to this. So far, it is proposed to be free to skaters with a signed waiver and wearing safety gear, but will be
unstaffed and
unsupervised. Daytime use only, as there will be no lights. No bikes.
What works in other states that have an unstaffed park, may not work as well here in Raleigh. I bring this up because of the recent crime events involving teenagers, as well as a recent theft from the site.
So, I am asking the forum readers to give their opinions on this subject. Can anybody who lives in the area, fill me in on what to expect in that particular neighborhood?
