For the record I see both sides of issues like these. I understand why they're controversial, but I also see the historic value.
What I don't agree with, is that people can get away with destroying property just because they do not agree with it. We all know nothing will happen to these protesters, and that's not right. It sets a terrible precedent.
Forgive me as a Philly guy that has lived in the South since I was 18, but why is the Confederacy celebrated? Is there a comparable losing side that had statues put up? I am asking seriously for a historical parallel and not to flame.

Can’t really say that I’m sad to see it go. I don’t agree with the method in which the statue was taken down but it was also bound to happen after the statue toppling in Durham last year.
As for punishment, it wouldn’t surprise me if the General Assembly made some heinous proposal in reaction to this incident.
