So we got my dad's car I posted about earlier with the intent to drive it back to NC. Unfortunately, it became disabled on the way here and we had to leave it in Richmond. I was wondering if anyone had any good recommendations for towing or car transport services? My husband has a friend that sells cars and has contacts with people that transfer cars up and down the east coast, but he hasn't been able to get in touch with him so I'm looking for a plan B. My dad really wanted to release it from his insurance within a few days, so I'm trying to work as quickly as possible.
You'll need a winch or something to get it up onto a uhaul carrier.
Honestly, pay a tow company to transport it. I assume the car is on the side of a highway somewhere, it's worth the bucks for your safety versus doing it yourself.

Yes, we don't have the time to go back up to Richmond and pick it up anyway. It's in a safe place at a business in the city. We have permission for it to be there.
Start getting quotes from the car shipping brokers then online and pick the one with the highest reviews / best price combo. Transportreviews.com has lots of reviews on the top brokers: https://www.transportreviews.com/
Most trucks that transport cars work independently, and the broker will book an actual truck to get the car to you.

Suggestion: Send an email or text to that business stating that they gave you permission And are not charging storage fees. Ask them to confirm this by typing "confirmed" and hitting reply.I
You have no idea how many of these cases show up on "The People's Court". (What can I say? The show is my guilty obsession. Following the above technique actually did keep me out of small claims court.)
Update: So, we found out that my dad has 200 miles of towing for his AAA service. We didn't realize he had that many miles at first because that wasn't what the initial customer service rep told us. That was more than enough to get the car from Richmond to Durham. My husband was required to be present to meet the driver.
We are definitely planning to upgrade our Basic AAA after this experience. Three miles can't even get a car towed to the my house to the shop!
