I'm kinda tired of seeing typical "box" styled apartments.

What I mean by unique:

Has a feature(s) that is not typical in most traditional apartments.

-Examples: wall to wall windows, floor to ceiling windows; high ceilings; untraditional layout; two-level apartment/staircase inside; large square footage; a studio or loft

+ Desired specs: 1 bedroom, patio, $1k-1.5k
(APEX, RAL., DUR, CARY, MORRISVILLE)

Please drop down any newer apartment complexes in any of these areas. Open to townhouses for rent.

Im STRUGGLING to find new developments in particular online.

Hawthorne at the Parkway (Cary, near Rt. 1) has 1 bedroom apartments featuring a spiral staircase to a loft space and 2nd bath. But they are NOT new. They're probably 25-ish years old.

Audubon Parc (Cary, near Waverly Place) also has 1 bedroom apts with a conventional staircase to a loft space (no 2nd bath), but they're still a little standard boxy. I think they're a little bit newer, but still not new.

I suspect those are going to come at a premium, likely outside of the OP's budget.

You might do better on your budget if you didn't want NEW.

Cornerstone, in Cary, has some loft apts.

Caraleigh Mills, near downtown Raleigh, are similar to what you’re looking for. I’m not sure if they have one bedroom condos or only two bedrooms, but it might be worth checking out. Or perhaps someone there can give you a lead on a similarly styled one-bedroom apartment. Have no idea how much it would cost to rent there, though. Good luck!

Like poppydog said, a lot of converted warehouse apartments/condos have what your are looking for in Durham downtown proper. But they are at the higher end of your range. West Village apartments (older buildings) definitely have unique layout apartments but I hear the management is not great (just a hearsay, not my personal experience). Condos such as 701 W Trinity Ave., 500 N. Duke St., 516 N Mangum St. etc. have some rental units but they rarely come on market and when they do they go fast! Actually, Goldenbelt (807 E Main St.) might be worth a look, looks like there are 2 units available for rent and within OP's budget.

My first thought: what is a "919 apartment" anyway??

An apartment located in the area represented by the 919 area code. It's become "cool" in the last couple of decades to refer to areas by their area code.
