What's funny is that's completely untrue and though I live in Durham I find Cary and Morrisville to be the center of really good authentic international cuisine in the Triangle. Very underrated food scene.
(Can't help you with the paella though - have to send you to Newark, NJ for that)
Tasca Brava on Glenwood had the last true authentic Paella that I found in the Triangle. It closed two years ago, as that strip really transitioned into more of a party bar atmosphere. The owner was a bit “eccentric” to be kind, and I was not happy that he dropped $$$ to buy out my old favorite date night place Bistro 607 in that location. I’m all ears for a new good place to try, as my home cooking attempts at paella have been a bit more “Bless my heart” as my grandmother would politely say...
Barcelona Wine Bar has it on the menu but I can't speak to how authentic it may or may not be.
