I'm looking for a place (N. Raleigh or nearby) with a pottery studio where an amateur could make some pieces. I'm wanting a place with a wheel where they fire it for you, but not just a paint your own pre-made pieces type of thing. Thanks, y'all!
Claymakers Studio
A friend of mine is an amateur potter. He teaches some of the classes here at claymakers and I know you can rent space here. It's in Durham.
Try Sertoma Arts Center, at Shelley Lake Park, Raleigh, Millbrook Road. The Pullen Arts Center in Raleigh has classes and wheels, as well as the Crafts Center at NCSU. THey both have kilns too.
My wife did this and loved it. I think you can either take a class, in which you can use the facility all you want, or you can pay a small fee to use it. If I remember, it did not seem very unreasonable at all.
