Well My wife and I are in Ny now (northern suburbs) and will be relocating in a year. (Apex/Holly Springs) We respect the fact that we will be outsiders for a little while and no matter what people say will have to lose the NY upbringing (even though we aren't typical new yorkers) and love the southern pride and general openess and friendliness. While were used to keeping to ourselves and kinda minding our own business and "keeping up with the joneses mentality" (even though we are prideful of living below our means and saving rather than spending) Anyways my question is my wifes into the Pharma Sales and doing quite well but who knows about that industry in the future. Myself, i am kind of an entrepreneur with a retail store, real estate investments and a realtor and a power seller on ebay. Is there an area or sector of business that is growing in the triangle? Will there be oppurtunities in the Real Estate Sector with population trends and the economy having to pick up eventually? Thanks for your input and i realize some threads that have the NY "snob" headlines--we are not them

I wish I could give you some insight but what ever I told you now may not apply in a year. At the moment the NC State un employment rate is 8.7%. But in a year it could be 4% or 14% no one really knows. The area as I'm sure your NY area is getting hit with many companies, both large and small laying people off. If you came today without a job in hand it would be tough. Housing, manufacturing, IT, and Financial jobs are down. Health care and Government jobs are holding their own.

Sounds like the things you do in NY you can do in NC. Your are just substituting the 'Y' for the 'C' the N stays the same. Entrepreneur are most welcomed here as any where. Retail is tough right now. We are losing the name brand stores like Circuit City, LinensNThings, and a host of mom and pop retail outlets just like NY is. From a real estate sector, if you want to buy an investment property you chances are very good you will find one here. Currently Wake County has almost 18 months of supply of the market according to the latest data I seen.

What you will find here is lower home cost both Capital and Operating than you have in NY. Better weather. Friendly Northern and Southern people. If your planning on Holly Springs or Apex you may find as many NY'ers as you have in NY! I am one that relocated from upstate NY several years ago.

Good luck in your research and decision!
