I'm coming to Raleigh for a few days in March for a couple of job interviews I have lined up. I'll be by myself, so I was wondering if anyone has suggestions for things I might enjoy doing on my own when I'm here. I've been to Cameron Village on previous visits and loved it, so I'm looking for different ideas this time. Thanks!

What are you into?

Some things I like to take people to when they visit: Raleigh Times, Lily's Pizza, Duke Chapel, A park, Bojangles (if their state doesn't have one), One of the museums, Hurricanes game or a college sporting event (Go Campbell!), BBQ (typically the Pit).

Duke garden (Sara P Duke), NC Botanical gardens, Pullen Park, State Farmers Market, State Fairgrounds - flea market, as pp states - a game - Chick Fil A - SouthPoint mall, downtown museums - science, history, marbles - all depends on what you are into and whether you have kids or not (regardless of whether they are with you!)

Some more info: I'm 23, single, no kids, living in Columbia SC currently and much more into exploring the city during the day than I am into the night life.

You both gave some great suggestions- I think I'm going to go for a walk around both Pullen Park and Duke gardens because I've heard so much about both.

The City Museum down on Fayetteville St. gives interestnig history about the area, assuming you are not one of those folks who decries anything and everything historical, in favor of tearing everything down and replacing it with new construction.

Explore the NC Museum of Art and its grounds. I haven't been to the Cloud Chamber yet, but it sounds very interesting and I look forward to checking it out myself.

FOR A TASTE OF NC IN ONE WEEKEND:

1. First stop, the NC state fairgrounds flea market. This is a big one! It is always being written up in top magazines for their fabulous finds. http://www.ncstatefair.org/Fleamarket/index.htm
Alot of people recommend the Farmer's Market. It is good, if fresh fruits and veggies are your thing. It is best to go there in the fall when pumpkins are in season or to find a Christmas tree. Otherwise it is pretty much just produce.
2. Chatham Hill Winery. It is right by the airport in Morrisville, as all good winerys should be. But don't be fooled by the industrial park exterior and location. This place offers a great tour and tasting. And the wine is award winning good! Plus, it makes a great Raleigh Area souvenir for the folks back home!

3. We have some great museums:
The NC Museum of History http://ncmuseumofhistory.org/
The NC Museum of Art http://www.ncartmuseum.org/
The NC Museum of Natural Sciences (The Dead Sea Scrolls are on exhibit) http://www.naturalsciences.org/
4. You have to eat at the Angus Barn. It has been a Raleigh landmark since the 1960's! http://www.angusbarn.com/welcome.html
5. Real Carolina BBQ, A MUST! Hog Heaven BBQ it is in Roxboro which is a fair drive a way but if you love the vinegar and pepper style BBQ this place is top notch! www.hogheavenbarbecue.com.
second runner up, Danny's Barbeque in Morrisville www.dannysbarbque.com. Not quite authentic but still wonderful!

HAVE FUN!

There is a list of "Fun Things To Do" compiled by Brentwood (subdivision) residents on our no-profit neighborhood website, http://www.beautifulbrentwood.com. There is also a list of things by month. Look for "Fun Things to do.." under Articles. I put the whole thing together a while ago.

I will never understand why people think so highly of Southpoint Mall, personally I'd rather go to Triangle Town Centre.
