Hello All:

Any recommendations for companies that install basketball hoops in driveways? I need the hoop plus a small concrete pad added to the driveway.

Thanks!

Try Tim Tant (Driveway Specialists). He did a nice 50' by 35' concrete pad for me. If you want a really nice court check out snapsports after you get your concrete pad done.

Try Produnkhoops.com
They sell the systems and have a complete nationwide installer list available on thier web site. Their Diamond Pro Dunk System is great.

Man, I'd really like to get a court done as well. Any idea of about how much something like this costs? 5k? (for concrete pad & goal)

Assuming the basketball goal was installed properly, it will have nearly a ten cubic foot ball of concrete buried in the ground, and the pole will be concrete filled.
  1. Remove the off-set arm and backboard by unbolting it from the pole. Ours had the arm attached by large U-bolts, and I was able to loosen the nuts on the U-bolts then wiggle it to the ground level for full removal.
  2. Use a metal cutting blade in a circular saw to score the pole and concrete 1/8 inch to 1/4 inch deep, all the way around, at the mid point of the pole. Tap the upper part of the pole with a sledge and the top half will gently topple to the ground.
  3. Repeat step #2 as close to the ground as you can cut using the saw. Tap the pole with a sledge and the bottom half will topple easily.
  4. Rent an electric demolition hammer, a BIG one that resembles the jack hammers road construction crews use. Expect to pay around $50 for a half day. Use this to break away the concrete in the bottom ball below ground. Break away the concrete for at least 18 inches below ground. Best if you can remove the entire ball, but the top 18-inches will be enough.
  5. Repeat step #2 again, but with the saw cutting the pole 18-inches deep in the hole - assuming you couldn't remove the entire concrete ball.
  6. Back-fill the resulting hole will suitable soil. Seed or sod as necessary.
Have fun!

The current cost of concrete is the highest it has been in my lifetime. Suppliers say that there is a shortage of ingredients and that demand drives the price. With the recent slow down in commercial and residential construction, hopefully we'll see a price reduction by the Summer.
