hmmmmm...getting a little nervous with all this talk about pollen, sinuses and respitory (excuse spelling-no coffee yet) stuff....I have bad seasonal allergies, mold, grass up here in Northeast and moving to NC. IS it worse there? Or longer? I can deal with seasonal (spring/fall) not a summers worth or three seasons worth...please share!

I moved during the winter from Maryland and this is the best spring I have had. I developed the allergies in Maryland and thus far it has been great here. I use claritin and have backed off the flonase. My yard situation here is different with not as much exposure to leaf mold. I would suggest you buy carefully and buy NEW. By buying new you will have a relatively clean duct work system working at its best. Also run the fan to keep cleaning the air and use the best filtrete filters. They are $20 each and recommended by consumers report. If your house is two stories get a dual zone system with a heat pump/AC for each floor.
Hope this helps

I moved from MA and for me, it is about the same. Allergies for a few weeks in the Spring and then okay rest of year. I have not seen any more pollen here than in MA. Both areas look like a sea of yellow/green for about 2 weeks, but then washes away. Anywhere there is four seasons will have pollen in the air in the Spring as plant & trees come to life. No biggie.

NC is very bad for allergies.

It doesn't hit at once but strikes hard once your new allergies develop here.

This comes from my daughter's allergist.

I can second that! Nothing to be nervous about. Just buy stock in your favorite drug company and Kleenex.

The pollen in this part of NC started to build near the first of April and is now almost gone. Once it is gone, there is very little issue with pollen allergies here. As an allergy sufferer myself, I can attest that this area is no worse than anywhere else I have been. I would not let a pollen concern worry you. Almost all of the year is very good here.

Pollen may go, but other allergens continue.

Time-Warner's Channel 14 weather reports many times include allergen graph telling what is out there on a particular day.

Mold allergies also abound here.

Well, the pine pollen may be almost gone, but other types of pollen are just getting started. My husband is allergic to various types of grass pollen. He periodically takes over-the-counter allergy meds for 4 or 5 months of the year here.

I think seasonal allergies are so much worse in NC than Northeast. I cannot figure out the length of the season here either...seems to last forever!

I saw today Greensboro, NC is the second WORST city for allergies in the nation:

It depends on what you are allergic to. I'm only bothered by it during the early spring. It usually catches me off guard but once I start the allegra, I'm fine.
When my wife moved here from NY, she got seriously ill from it. She went to a specialist and they stuck her in the back with 100 different allergens to test what she was allergic to. Turned out she was allergic to about a dozen. She takes her meds and she is fine.
It hit me this year about mid March. I went to the Doc and he said "yesterday was the worst day this year for pollen". He gave me the Allegra and I stayed on it for about 14 days. I have been fine since.
