Hi:

We found a house in Cary, and will be able to fence it for our dogs.

The gas and electric meters are at the back of the house, inside the area we want to fence for the dogs, and leave the dogs in the yard when we are at work.

QUESTION: do the meter readers have to have physical access to the meters on meter reading day?

Or do they have one of the remote zappers, so they can read the meter from a distance -- like outside a fenced yard with a locked gate?

Or can we do a "self read" on meter day and report it via the phone or internet, or even a dial card hung on the front door?

Thanks,
NMnative

Last year Progress Energy installed a digital meter on our house (and the rest of the neighborhood) so they could read the meter from the car. PSNC still comes buy on foot to read the meter, as does our water. You'd probably be best answered by calling Progress Energy and PSNC directly to see if you can call in your own reading.

Are you on Natural Gas? I recently sold a house in a neighborhood and they thought it was natural gas. It turns out they have a propane tank in the yard which has to be serviced every few months. Most of the neighborhoods in Cary are Natural Gas but make sure you check.

Definitely Natural Gas. The neighborhood is Oxxford Hunt. And there's a gas meter on the house.....so that's "definitely," right?
