We are fairly new to the area and are looking forward to seeing some concerts this summer. Where are the best places to go to see concerts in the Raleigh area? And anyone have some recommendations on places to see good live music ie good local bands at bars?

Time Warner Cable Music Pavilion at Walnut Creek Concert Tickets, Schedule, Information |Official Live Nation Site

Cary's Booth Amphitheatre

North Carolina Museum of Art | Arts in the Museum Park

Those are the big ones that come to mind (as well as the RBC Center)

There are TONS of bars/venues with local music. I usually pick up a copy of The Independent Weekly to see what's going on...but blogs like New Raleigh and GoGo Raleigh also do a pretty good job of keeping ya in the know...

There's also Cat's Cradle in Chapel Hill. But not sure about Durham and other Chapel Hill venues...

Oh...and the freebie concerts every other weekend in downtown Raleigh:

Tonight the Rosebuds, Chatham County Line, Rusted Root and Hobex are playing outside (well, Hobex is inside Lincoln Theater) starting at 6pm til about 1am in downtown Raleigh. It is a benefit for the Lucy Daniels Center put on by a nonprofit called Band Together. Here is more info:Band Together NC | Raise Funds. Raise Awareness. Raise the Bar. Come on out...looks like a gorgeous night!
