Where to sell furniture? (Raleigh, Durham: consignment, new house, buyers)

We moved a houseful of furniture from Texas and now we plan to replace most of it because of the size and floorplan in our new house.

Ideally, we would like to find a place or person that will buy the whole lot and bring a truck to get it.

I'm aware of Craig's List and recently heard of traingletrader.com. We're prepared to go that route if necessary, but would prefer to sell all of it together.

We're selling a leather sofa and two microfiber recliners, coffee and two end tables, formal dining set, kitchen table and chairs. We haven't decided on the master bedroom set yet.

Does anyone know of any estate buyers or consignment shops that would fill the bill?

There is a place in Raleigh called Consign by Design or ConsignDesign or something similar that sells/consigns higher end furniture. There is also another place called Furniture Exchange or something. Google it or look in the yellow pages.

There is a "high end" furniture consignment shop in Durham too. If I can remember the name of it I will post it here.

I know it's kind of playing Monday Morning Quarterback at this point, but wouldn't it have been easier to just unload it in Dallas and then buy new furniture in NC?

The consignment shops are going to be your best bet as far as taking it someplace to get sold by someone else; otherwise you can do it on your own and craigslist could find some buyers. There is some kind of Greensheet-like shopper thing that the Raleigh News&Observer (I think) publishes....You have options. Good luck.

I have a similar problem. We have a house in Raleigh of about 4,000 sq feet of furniture --- all brand new and very contemporary. It is a second home for us close to our daughter that lives in Raleigh. The daughter is now moving back home to Arizona. I have no place for all of this stuff. So, I need to clear out the entire house of furniture, furnishings, etc. I will have to do it quickly on a visit or two to Raleigh, so can't do the typical craigslist.
Any ideas?

Are you selling the house? If so then maybe you can sell furnished if someone is interested.

I'm in a similar situation, bought all new last year - red leather loveseat, black leather sofa, recliner. All in great shape. Now, as I'm settling in, I know how I want to furnish our home, and these pieces just don't fit. I went to the Furniture Exchange the other day, and found it's been replaced by a new business. I don't know if Furniture Exchange closed up shop, or moved to new quarters. They always had some interesting pieces and reasonable prices. I made note of the consignment shops mentioned earlier, and will see if I can find them. If anyone knows of any others, please post, or send me a pm.

Same here...

I bought furniture when I moved in (my first home), and 2 years later, I determined that, 'this stuff isn't my style.'

It was practically new (I never sat on it or used it) and was quite pricey. Some of it I consigned, but to be honest, it wasn't worth it.

I got rid of my items in 'rounds', so for round 2 and 3, I donated it. The tax break will end up being more than I could get at the consignment shop.
