Hi

I am looking at moving to this area and I'm in the process of researching and trying to find the best place. I'm 24, single, and I work with adults with developmental disabilities. I will probably be a student within a year of moving. What I'm most interested in finding out is how affordable these areas are. I don't want a roommate, and my budget would be somewhere between 600-850 a month. I don't have a pet, but would like a dog at some point.

I've looked at craigslist and it seems like my budget is very doable in these areas. What do you guys think?

I've been creeping around the forum for awhile and you guys are so helpful with information so thanks in advance!

Brittany

No question you can find a reasonably decent 1 bedroom apartment for around $700-725 a month.

Hi! Your budget is doable in Raleigh. I would go ahead and get a pet-friendly apartment from the start. There are generic rental websites where you can filter pet-friendly apartment communities in the area; and the Wake Co. SPCA has compiled a list of more than 200 local apartments as well:

The area is very pet friendly for renters. Most places will have some sort of breed/weight restrictions as well as the # of pets. Be careful with Craigslist...I would rent from one of the complexes down here such as Bell Partners,Bexley Apts. etc., just google or read aparmentratings.com

You should be fine with your budget but you may need to be on the higher side given the demand for housing here. Good Luck!

The landlords have almost all switched from pet deposits to non-refundable fees plus, in many cases, monthly pet "rent".

In this state, no chance of tenant protection banning this unfair practice.Deposits are fine because pets can do a lot of damage. Fees with nothing in return are a ripoff.

Rents have risen greatly here in the last 2 years.
