I just built multiple raised bed gardens and I am in the process of filling them. For those of you who have raised bed gardens here, when do you find yourself able to plant the following items?

Lettuce
Spinach
Cukes
Squash
Bell Peppers
Tomatoes
Potatoes

Do you find yourself covering them on cold nights?

Here's a link to NCSU planting guide. Peppers are very sensitive to cold, thus the later planting date.

You didn't list snow or snap peas but you could put those in ASAP. YUM!

Tomatos must wait until the last frost date for your area, and I think cukes and squash also.

Smile When to plant in raised beds

Hi,
You can start your seeds for pepper and tomatos indoors. I just started mine this weekend. Mid April you can put the plants outside to harden up a few hours a day for about two weeks. While the plants are hardening up for two weeks we use red mulch paper over the raised beds to warm up the soil for the two week period. At the end of April you should be past the last frost date and can put them in your beds. We direct sow peas, cukes, beans, lettuce and beets at this time.

The last frost date for this area is around April 15th, tax day. If you're direct sowing, check your seed packets for their recommendations. Some of the crops you list are cool weather crops (lettuce, spinach) ad some are warm weather crops (tomatoes, peppers, cukes, squash). The seed packets for your particular varieties (or the plant marker if you're buying seedlings) should have info on them indicating when in reference to the last frost date you can plant.

I've already planted snow peas and sugar snap peas and probably will plant another round in 2 weeks or so.

Thanks for the link. It is most excellent. I planted my lettuce, spinach and onion seeds in one of my gardens this weekend. I will wait until mid to late April for the balance.
