My wife and I just moved to Morrisville from Tulsa, Ok. My question is do I need to get my cars inspected before I go to the DMV for registration and tags? I know we'll have to get our NC drivers license before I can do anything....right? Thanks in advance. So far we love it here.
I just registered mine a week ago. You need to get your NC drivers license first. Then go and register your car. You don't have to get your car inspected until right before you renew your registration in 2010. Your inspection is good for a year so it's best to do it right before you renew your registration as then it will last you an entire year. HTH!
I just moved here from NJ and will have to change my plates very soon. Forgive me if this is a stupid question, but why do some people have red plates and some blue? Is it just preference?
They switched to red lettering a couple of years ago - so plates issued since then are red. It was said at the time that the blue lettering was subject to fading.
The DMV decided earlier this year that the transition to red lettering was a mistake, and they are going back to blue lettering as soon as all of the red plates are distributed. That should be happening any day now, according to this story:

I have been delaying trading in my NY plates (I know I am supposed to have done it by now) I think partly because I was dreading those red plates.
