My parents had the same problem last year. Those beetles all but decimated the Japanese Maple. I think she decided on Sevin Dust and some type of poison. Also my Dad bought this Japanese beetle trap and it trapped quite a few of those verocious feeders.
Sevin Dust, ok, thanks, I'll look it up. I don't want too harmful of stuff on them because we have critters and kids around. But, my roses in particular are lovely, and they just tear them up every year. As for the crepe myrtles, forget about it, you knock a branch and a million of them fly up. I just saw my first one yesterday, and want to try and stop it before it gets too far this year. Thanks again!
I've heard that the traps are a big no-no, as they just attract more beetles to your property... ??? We always get them on our basil plants. By the middle of June, they've usually destroyed every last leaf. So frustrating! I'm hoping you get more replies. I'm also particularly interested in non-poisonous approaches, as we'd still like to enjoy our pesto
try a soap/water spray (Safer Soap- is brand name)or Diatomaceous Earth which is an organic powder. By the way, I can post like crazy but can't figure out how to create a NEW post. thanks for advising!
Thanks procfreq I've heard that also. and I looked up the sevin dust, but it appears to kill the butterflies also. hmmmm. I like them.
bmorris, Thank you, I'll look into that also.

Click on that and it'll bring you a page to type in , and voila you're good to go.
