Anyone know much about Oak Park subdivision off of Glenwood Ave. zip 27612? I know most of the houses are older, but how are the pool and other community facilities? Residents friendly? Stability of the community and surrounding area? It looks like a lot of the shopping around there has gone down hill.

We used to live there and loved it! The pool is awesome, very friendly and family oriented. They have a well organized swim team AND youth tennis team. When I lived there they also several adult nights like wine tastings and such. It was fun! All of our neighbors were fine. It's a pretty mixed bag back there because it is an older neighborhood. You have original residents and new ones too, but all in all we liked the people. The general area around there is "OK". I do think the shopping has taken a turn for the worse with Brier Creek opening up since I lived there but it's still close enough to plenty of other shopping (5 minutes from Crabtree, 10 to North Hills and 15 to Brier Creek) that I wouldn't worry too much about shopping options. There's plenty! It's a VERY convenient location. I'd have no problems moving back there again.

I wanted to revive this to see if opinions have changed now that the restoration of the shopping center has been finished. I went to Casa Carbone the other day and was floored at how much better the exterior of the shopping center looked. I think they did a nice job with the updates.

Casa Carbone is one of my favorite restaurants...family owned. I also love Peddler Steak House. Not that the question was about the shopping center!

Oak Park subdivision is an older n'hood but I have only heard good things about it. If your concern is crime, I don't know of any but you should always check the crime stats.

Oak Park just opened a new ice cream place which also
sells hormone free milk in glass bottles. I think
Oak Park is a quiet neighborhood and convenient to
RDU, RTP and Crabtree.
