My employer Fidelity is relocating me from MA to NC. I have a 3 yr old who is autistic and a 4 yr old who is not, that will be starting pre-k. The school system here is going to start him in a full day aba based integrated(1/2 students on an iep 1/2 not) program. My dilemma is, he is on the low end of the spectrum, meaning he is not severe. He had a speech delay and prefers to play alone, which are his only tell tale signs. I'm looking for something similar in NC. My employment is in Cary. I've tried several groups who say they can't tell me where to move only assist with services once I decide. I've called a couple of schools and I'm getting a lot of, WE'LL SEPERATE HIM INTO AN ALL AUTISTIC CLASSROOM. I really don't feel isolating him is in his best interest. I hate to move from an area with the services we like into an area with unknown services. Please if anyone has any input on something commutable to Cary it would be greatly appreciated!

I'm not sure about the services provided, but Duke has a Child Behavioral and Development Center through their department of Pediatrics, you might want to check with them.

Do you have his recent assessment? Did you have to get an assessment for him in MA? One resource may be project enlightenment, and they provide assistance with assessment testing, and also provide information about integrated preschool programs. I have a friend who has a son with a speech delay and he qualified for an integrated preschool program.

Project enlightenment is through the wake county school system. Also there is teacch.com program in chapel hill. I would call project enlightenment and ask them some questions and see if that helps. I know the difficulty with moving here is finding out where the integrated preschools are located and who has openings.
