Rapid's weather seems to be the most unpredictable out of anywhere I've been. In Rapid, it will be snowing one day and in the 50s the next. It will be raining and ten minutes later the sun is shining, or the sun is shining while raining. The weather just seems so much more unpredictable than the rest of the state like Sioux Falls. I know a lot of places have the saying, "if you don't like the weather just wait five minutes," but does anyone that's lived elsewhere find this to be more true in Rapid.

No, where I lived before it was 72F and sunny or 72F and overcast pretty much year round. The leaves didn't even bother changing colors in the fall except at higher elevations where weather actually occurred.

For an ardent weather weenie, Rapid City and surrounding environs are endlessly fascinating. There aren't too many places where it's 80F one day and snowing the next. IIRC, Spearfish holds the world record for the fastest temperature change, which was a swing of approximately 60F in 2 minutes.

You prepare as best you can. Today I was a major weenie, whining and sniveling as I crossed the school of mines campus. I wised up and zipped up my jacket for the trip back across campus.

My longtime joke, was I often went to the twin cities in January or February, so I could get the full experience.

I go to the U of Minnesota and today was a definite eye-opener of what's to come. Thankfully there are skywalks and tunnels . I miss the crazy changing weather in Rapid. Here it just seems to fluctuate 5-10F between the days, so, I'm not looking too forward to January. Everyone in Rapid always tells me it's way worse here and it doesn't warm up like Rapid.

Where I live, it's much the same as Rapid City with the Black Hills to the West, we have the Big Horn Mountains to the West. As a result, we get the same weather swings. Last week it hit 80 degrees on one day and it was snowing the next day.

Something else that is funny, normally, the weather we have on Monday, Rapid City will have on Tuesday.

where I live it's just cold, all the time. Of course I'm fairly used to cold winters living in northern climates my whole life, but it was warmer in eastern Wisconsin for sure.

Going to visit the black hills tomorrow, have vacation to burn, forecast looks good for the next 4 days. Sunny and nice.
