Me and a buddy are camping in the Black Hills next month around Deerfield lake. Besides fishing and the lake activities what things in the area would you suggest doing? Not really looking to see the monuments because we have both been there done that. We are looking to hike, sight see, park attractions. Any ideas on what might help us stay busy for our stay?
Custer State Park is a must visit...plenty of wildlife and gorgeous hikes. My favorite is Harney Peak, but there's also the Cathedral Spires, Little Devils Tower, Sylvan Lake. You can spend plenty of time there and not get bored.
There are a few places near Deadwood that rent out ATVs. When I went, it was actually pretty reasonable pricing, the trails go on, and on, and on. You could spend a week out there and never see the same thing twice. I'm not sure about the rental ATVs, but I do know it's completely legal to drive them on city streets if they are equipped with full lights and license plates (registered).
